Haruka Mitani is an independent filmmaker based in Kyoto, Japan. She was raised in a traditional Kyoto lacquer-ware crafts family and received a university degree in Image Arts and Sciences from Ritsumeikan University. 

Haruka's film Caffenol (pictured above), an 8mm film hand-developed using a homemade coffee-based developer, was scored by Manchester band MOTHER for Video Jam at Sounds from the Other City (03/05/14). In the same month, her film Metamorphose, picturing a girl transforming into a butterfly, was scored by Distractfold Ensemble for Video Jam at Fat Out Fest (24/05/14). Earlier that year, Banquet of Love - a colourful abstract work made in celebration of 100 years since Norman McLaren's birth - was scored by the Harlequin Dynamite Marching Band for Video Jam at Manchester Art Gallery (16/01/14) a programme curated in response to Jeremy Deller's major exhibition All that is Solid Melts into Air.
