Baraka, RNCM
Video Jam presented Baraka
Royal Northern College of Music | 10th February 2017
Originally shot in 25 countries on six continents, Baraka brings together a series of stunningly photographed scenes to capture what director Ron Fricke calls 'a guided meditation on humanity.’ Marking the culmination of 3 years work, six different composers were given a section from the feature length work to score live, one after the next, in a unique musical relay. The acts were contrasting musical styles as the score moved seamlessly from electronic to percussive to contemporary classical.
We were delighted to have sold out the 600+ capacity venue for this event.

FLAMINGODS
Flamingods are a multi-instrumental band who have been described by The 405 as "a five-piece based out of the UK, fusing together Asian polyphonic textures, African rhythms, and the occasional pop sensibility into something of a freak-folk blush.” Based in both the UK and Bahrain, the group puts a focus on exploration and experimentation, often taking influence from different cultures around the world by use of an extensive collection of instruments from as far as Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, Japan and Tanzania. Flamingods recorded their first studio album in 2012 in Sound Savers Recording Studio in Homerton (London), and soon after teamed up with Art is Hard Records to release the album in January of 2013. While being informed by the imagery, music and concepts of far-flung cultures, experimental, psych, rock and pop acts also inspired much of the early works of Flamingods. Bands such as Boredoms, Animal Collective, Sun Araw, Sun City Girls and Deerhunter have been cited as early influences. -
MY PANDA SHALL FLY
My Panda Shall Fly, also known as Suren Seneviratne, is one of the most prolific electronic artists of our generation. Seneviratne's sound is characteristically beyond definition and with every new project his practice has become almost focused entirely on process. A restless creative force since his formative years bedroom-producing basic loops on free software, My Panda Shall Fly has already left a special mark across the gamut of electronic music in his unique & eccentric way. Seneviratne has released on CD, cassette, vinyl & digitally on international record labels like Five Easy Pieces, Sonic Router, Gang of Ducks, Activia Benz and Tape Club Records – whose 7” was accompanied by an incredible music video which went on to garner much-deserved praise and acclaim from the BBC Music Video Festival as well as a screening at SXSW. The current discography to date is an impeccably arranged collection of diverse material by an accomplished and visionary artist that could sit comfortably alongside the output of modern luminaries like Authechre, Fourtet and Flying Lotus. -
